*Dear AIIAS English Center Students,*
Congratulations on completing the first week of classes of this
Inter-semester.
We are glad to have you joining us for this learning journey. And to make
the most of this experience, pay attention to some information I will share
with you.
First, take note of the three holidays ahead of us: June 6 (tomorrow), June
9 (next Monday), and June 12 (next Thursday). Because every day counts,
your teacher will be informing you what you will have to do to compensate
for these days with no classes.
Organize yourself to be in class on time. Regular classes are from Monday
through Thursday, from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm, and from 1:30 pm until 3:30
pm.
Please, be patient if you come to class before 8:00 am and you don't find
anyone at the English Center. The reason is that AIIAS staff get together
every day from 7:30 am until 7:55 for morning worship. If you want to join
us you are welcome, it's open to all. Just come to the amphitheater.
Remember, you are enrolled in a very intensive program (8-9 weeks), and you
can only be absent 15% of the total days of classes, which is equivalent to
about 5 full days.
We take attendance every day and Chapels (Mondays, 11:00-12:00) are part of
your class schedule, and you are expected to attend them. Your teacher may
request some specific activities based on the Chapel topic/presentation.
Chapels are a good listening and comprehension opportunity, besides being a
time to connect with the AIIAS academic community.
Take advantage of the English immersion environment at AIIAS: talk with
people, make new friends, attend the worship services, go to the special
programs and trips. These are good activities to practice your English
skills.
Study hard, do all your assignments, do your activities on MyEnglishLab and
Clear Fluency, stop using Google Translate or any other tool and Artificial
Intelligence (AI), use your brain, learn new vocabulary words and practice
them. Soon you will see the results of your effort and commitment to
learning (you need 83% or a B grade to pass to the next level).
Check your AIIAS email frequently and our social media (Facebook and
Instagram) because these are our official ways of communication. In a few
days we will announce the "One-on-One" conversation classes along with the
Versant Test preparation class. These services are offered free of charge.
I hope you will enjoy them.
If you have any concern or need clarification, just come to the English
Center office and we will try our best to assist you.
See you on Tuesday (June 10).
